Narex Hot Forged Workbench Holdfast for 3/4" Dog Holes

These holdfasts by Narex are inspired by traditional hand-forged holdfasts, crafted by blacksmiths and often quite expensive due to the labor-intensive fabrication process. In contrast, Narex holdfasts are hot-forged using modern equipment in the Narex factory, ensuring consistent quality and exceptional value.

Holdfasts have been used for centuries by carpenters, joiners, and cabinetmakers to secure boards to the tops and sides of workbenches, allowing for hands-free planing, carving, drilling, sawing, shaping, and more. They are ideal for projects requiring frequent repositioning.

To use them, simply drill 3/4" (19mm) holes in your workbench, insert the holdfast, and strike the center of the head with a mallet. This causes the untapered shaft to wedge tightly against the sides of the hole to secure your work. To release, tap the backside of the clamp. These holdfasts can be secured, repositioned, and released in seconds. They have just the right amount of spring to clamp tightly when struck, yet release easily. These holdfasts come uncoated, with sandblasted shafts left slightly rough to enhance grip within the hole. We do not recommend applying any rust protection to the shafts but letting them age and tarnish, as this will further increase their grip. For optimal performance, use holdfasts on benches 2” to 4” thick. They will securely grip boards up to 6" thick and are best used in pairs.

We recommend applying leather or cork rubber to the pads to prevent denting your work.
